COMPUTERISED UNRESERVED TICKETING

The computerized Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), launched in Delhi area in August 2002, has since picked up and been extended to nine stations on Northern Railway. It is also being extended to four other Zonal Railways during the current financial year 2003-2004.

The launch of UTS has now enabled passengers to purchase tickets upto three days in advance and from any of the cluster stations. This has reduced the length of the queue at the busy stations. The facility to purchase the tickets in advance allows the passengers to book journeys in advance. The UTS generated data also enables better planning of the unreserved segment of passengers.

The earlier methods of ticketing for unreserved passengers had limitations that caused delays in the issue of tickets leading to long queues and causing considerable waiting for the passengers to buy tickets. Passengers also could not buy tickets in advance and tickets could only be purchased from the station where the journey had to originate.
