KASHIRAM RANA APPROVED PROPOSAL FOR III PHASE OF RURAL ROADS


Shri Kashiram Rana, Union Minister of Rural Development has approved the proposals for the Phase-III (2003-04) of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for the States of Assam, Karnataka, Punjab, West Bengal, Kerala and Nagaland. The proposals for construction of rural roads were received from the respective State governments and were approved by the Minister on the recommendations of the Empowered Committee, which examined the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for design and costing. The proposals approved also include proposals made by the Members of Parliament of the respective States. With the approval of this phase, the PMGSY programme will receive a great boost in these States. The total length of roads, which have been approved, is 3314.27 kms. And these roads will be constructed at a cost of Rs.665.99 crores. The roads will benefit habitants of 2477 habitations in all the States. The State-wise details of projects approved are as under.

For the State of Assam, 800.10 kms. of roads have been approved, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 199.72 crores. The total number of road works approved is 107, which will benefit habitants of 634 habitations in the State. The approved proposal include 93 proposals made by the Members of Parliament of the State.

In the State of Karnataka, 1096.30 kms. of roads have been approved, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.118.41 crores. The total number of road works approved is 359, which will benefit habitants of 842 habitations in the State. The approved proposals include 271 proposals received from the Members of Parliament of the State.

For the State of Punjab, 169.75 kms. of roads have been approved, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.27.35 crores. The total number of road works approved is 85, which will benefit habitants of 86 habitations in the State. The approved proposals include 26 proposals made by the Members of Parliament of the State of Punjab.

In the State of West Bengal, 955.64 kms of roads have been approved, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.278.30 crores. The total number of road works approved is 171, which will benefit 816 habitations. The approved proposals include 100 proposals received from the Members of Parliament.

In the State of Kerala, 99.06 kms. of roads have been approved, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.20.77 crores. The total number of road works approved is 53 and will benefit 71 habitations. The salient feature is that all the proposals which have been approved are those which were received from the Members of Parliament.

As far as the State of Nagaland is concerned, 193.42 kms. of roads have been approved, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.21.44 crores. 22 numbers of road works have been approved, which will benefit 28 habitations. The approved proposals include 3 proposals received from the Members of Parliament of the State.
