RAILWAY ELECTRIFICATION IN TENTH
PLAN
Indian Railways have
provided Rs. 1500 crores for electrification of its tracks in
the Tenth Five Year Plan.
During the Ninth
Plan, a total of 2484 route kilometres were electrified against
the target of 2300 route kilometres. The target was exceeded by
184 route kilometres.
About 1618 route
kilometres of tracks were electrified during the last four years
from 2000-2001 to 2003-2004, so far.
The important
routes on which the electrification has been completed and the
electric traction introduced include Lucknow-Kanpur, Adra-Midnapur,
Erode-Eranakulam, Chandil-Muri—Barkakana, Ambala-Kalka—Sirhand-Nangal
Dam—Una, Sitarampur—Mughalsarai, Circular Railway around Lucknow
area, Tambaram-Chengalpattu—Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu—Villupuram,
Bhubaneswar—Kottavalasa, Bokaro—Barsuan/Kiriburu including Purulia—Kotshila,
Kasunda—Jamuniatand, Barsat—Hasanabad, Patna—Gaya and Udhna—Jalgaon.
