PROMOTION OF RAIL BASED TOURISM


Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a public sector undertaking of the Ministry of Railways, undertook 76 full train charters, 413 special coaches and 46,000 berths on various sectors of tourism spots in the country during this year till July 31, 2003, to promote rail based tourism.

These tours, undertaken in association with travel and tour industry, helped IRCTC to earn Rs. 11.46 crores.

IRCTC is working as an extended arm of the Indian Railways to upgrade, professionalise and manage catering and hospitality services at stations, on trains and other locations. Besides, it is promoting domestic and international tourism through development of hotels, information and commercial publicity and setting up budget hotels.
