PERFORMANCE OF RAILWAYS DURING
APRIL-SEPTEMBER 2003
Indian Railways
saved Rs. 1521.81 crores in its working expenses during the first
half of the current fiscal ending September 2003, as compared
to the budgetary target of Rs. 17,512.55 crores. The cumulative
working expenses, during the period, were Rs. 15,990,74 crores.
The cumulative
earnings were Rs. 20,356.23 crores as compared to the budgetary
target of Rs. 21,119.64 crores, showing a shortfall of Rs. 763.41
crores.
During the period,
the passenger traffic registered an increase of 59.64 millions.
Accordingly, the number of passengers booked was 2561.70 millions
as compared to 2502.06 millions during the corresponding period
of the previous year.
