PM CONDOLES THE DEATH OF MURASOLI MARAN


The Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee has expressed deep grief at the demise of Mr. Murasoli Maran, Union Cabinet Minister and DMK leader.

In a message, the Prime Minister said that Shri Murasoli Maran was a visionary politician who was always concerned with the well-being of weaker sections. As the Union Minister of Commerce he was instrumental in expressing successfully the concerns of developing nations at the WTO particularly at the Doha round. He played a significant role in giving proper orientation to the WTO discussions and forcefully put forth the need and aspirations of the developing countries in the emerging World trade order. "In his death, I have lost a close associate and it is a personal loss to me", the Prime Minister added.

Earlier, immediately on getting the news of Mr. Murasoli Maran’s death on Sunday, the Prime Minister telephoned DMK leader, Mr. Karunanidhi and Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, son of Mr. Murasoli Maran and expressed heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

The Prime Minister will be visiting Chennai this afternoon to pay homage to the departed soul.
