RAILWAYS EXCEED REVENUE FREIGHT
TARGET DURING APRIL-FEBRUARY 2002-2003
The Railways transported
469.21 Million Tonnes (MT) of revenue earning freight during the
first eleven months of the current financial year 2002-2003 as
against the target of 461.55 MT, thus, exceeding the target by
7.66 MT. This is 24.85 MT higher over 444.36 MT during the corresponding
period of the previous year.
The revised annual
target for 2002-2003 is 515 MT revenue earning freight.
Of the total
freight traffic, coal was 213.28 MT, raw material for steel plants
37.22 MT, finished iron and steel from steel plants 11.75 MT,
iron ore for exports 14.53 MT, cement 41.61 MT, foodgrains 41.36
MT, fertilizers 24.64 MT, Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) 31.29
MT and other goods 53.53 MT.
During the period,
the revenue earning freight traffic in Net Tonne Kilo Metres (NTKMs)
in millions was 323626 NTKMs as compared to 298472 NTKMs during
the corresponding period of the previous year, thus, recording
an increase of 25154 NTKMs over the last year and 21163 NTKMs
over the current target.
