SIKKIM CM CALLS ON I&B MINISTER

EARLY COMMISSIONING OF GANGTOK DD KENDRA REQUESTED

The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Pawan Chamling alongwith his Cabinet colleagues called on the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad here today and requested for the early commissioning of the Doordarshan Kendra at Gangtok. Shri Chamling also requested the Minister to consider opening of a FM Radio Station in Sikkim to meet the information and entertainment needs of the Himalayan State. The members of the delegation requested the Minister to get the rural programme of AIR Gangtok restored.

Shri Prasad assured to take appropriate action on the demands and said that Doordarshan, AIR and other media units of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting would extend full support to the development efforts of the State Government. He said the people have to be made aware of their stake in speedier development so that they take interest and actively participate in the development process. The instrument of communication has to be utilized in a very big way, he said.
