FACILITIES TO THE TRIBALS
OF ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS
The Ministry of Tribal
Affairs implements various schemes/programmes for the welfare
and development of tribals in all the States/UTs, including the
Andaman & Nicobar Islands. These Schemes do not provide for
any extra facilities to the tribals of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
As per the Constitution
(Andaman & Nicobar Islands) Scheduled Tribes Order, 1959,
the following communities have been notified as Scheduled tribes:
Andanese, Chariar, Chari, Koa, Tabo, Bo, Yere, Kede, Bea, Balawa,
Bojigiyab, Juwai, Kol, Jarawas, Nicobarese, Onges, Sentinelese
and Shompens.
No Community is specified
as a Scheduled Caste in the Andaman and Nicobar islands as per
the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) (Union Territories) Order,
1951.

was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual
Oram in a written reply to a question from Shri A. C. Jose in
the Lok Sabha today.
