NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR
SCHEDULED TRIBES
Recognising that
the problems and issues concerning Scheduled Tribes differ from
those of the Scheduled Castes the Government has decided to set
up a National Commission for Scheduled Tribes. A Bill, namely
the Constitution(Ninety-Fourth) Amendment, Bill 2002, was introduced
in the Lok Sabha on 20.12.2002, which has been referred to the
Standing Committee on Labour and Welfare for examination.
This information
was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual
Oram in a written reply to a question from Shri Basudeb Acharia
in the Lok Sabha today.
