The National Commission
for Safai Karamcharis has called for structural changes and reorientation
of the schemes to ensure maximum benefit to safai karamcharis.
The Commission in its Annual Report for 2001-02 has recommended
this. The Report was presented to the Social Justice and Empowerment
Minister Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya by the Chairman of the Commission
Shri Panna Lal Tambay here today. The Minister of State for Social
Justice and Empowerment Dr. Sanjay Paswan, Members of the Commission
and senior officials of the Ministry were present on the occasion.
This is the fifth
Annual Report of the Commission presented to the Government
of India. The recommendations made in the Report are based on
the evaluation by the Commission of programmes and schemes for
Safai Karamcharis. The Commission gathered first hand information
about the benefits that have reached the Safai Karamcharis,
the aberrations and shortcomings in the schemes and the actual
living and working conditions of safai karamcharis. All this
has been reflected in the Report.
The National Commission
for Safai Karamcharis has been constituted by the Central Government
to study, evaluate and monitor the implementation of various
schemes for safai Karamcharis as an independent organisation
and also to ensure redressel of their grievances.
