NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR SAFAI KARAMCHARIS PRESENTS FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT TO GOVERNMENT

The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis has called for structural changes and reorientation of the schemes to ensure maximum benefit to safai karamcharis. The Commission in its Annual Report for 2001-02 has recommended this. The Report was presented to the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya by the Chairman of the Commission Shri Panna Lal Tambay here today. The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Sanjay Paswan, Members of the Commission and senior officials of the Ministry were present on the occasion.

This is the fifth Annual Report of the Commission presented to the Government of India. The recommendations made in the Report are based on the evaluation by the Commission of programmes and schemes for Safai Karamcharis. The Commission gathered first hand information about the benefits that have reached the Safai Karamcharis, the aberrations and shortcomings in the schemes and the actual living and working conditions of safai karamcharis. All this has been reflected in the Report.

The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis has been constituted by the Central Government to study, evaluate and monitor the implementation of various schemes for safai Karamcharis as an independent organisation and also to ensure redressel of their grievances.
