The Union Ministry
of Agriculture has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP)
of Toria by Rs.30 per quintal. MSP of the current year’s Fair
Average Quality (FAQ) Toria crop to be marketed in 2003-04 has
been fixed at Rs.1,295 per quintal. In addition, Rs.10 per quintal
will also be paid to the farmers as one time special drought
relief. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation
of India Ltd. (NAFED) will provide price support to Toria to
ensure MSP to the farmers.
The Cabinet Committee
on Economic Affairs which had earlier decided the MSP for Rapeseed/Mustard
asked the Ministry of Agriculture to fix MSP for Toria based
on normal market price differentials between Toria and Rapeseed/Mustard.
