KIDNEY TRADE IN KERALA

RAJYA SABHA

The Government of Kerala had informed the Ministry that 17 persons had sold their kidneys at the National Hospital and the Baby Memorial Hospital Kozhikode. Four of them were tribals from Idduki District. As per the report of the State Government, the sale of Kidneys was effected on economic considerations.

The National Commission of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have informed the Ministry that they are in the process of conducting an investigation into this matter and that their report is yet to be finalised.

This information was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram in a written reply to a question from Shri A. Vijaya Raghavan in the Rajya Sabha today.
