IMPLEMENTATION OF ORISSA TRIBAL EMPOWERMENT AND LIVELIHOOD PROGRAMME

The Orissa Tribal Empowerment and Livelihood Programme (OTELP) Loan Agreement has been signed between the Government of India and International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) on December 18, 2002,

The total estimated cost of the project is about US$ 91.1 million. Following is the break-up of the projects cost namely, Central share, State share, International fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Department for International Development (DFID), U.K., World Food Programme (WFP), Financial Institutions and Beneficiary contribution are nil, 9.7, 20, 40, 12, 0.4, and 9.0 million US $ respectively.

The programme is yet to take off. Works that would be carried out under the programme are inter alia, capacity building for empowerment, livelihood enhancement, support for policy initiatives, development initiatives fund, programme management and food handling.

This information was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram in a written reply to a question from S/Shri B. J. Panda and Ramachandr Khuntia in the Rajya Sabha today.
