IMPORT OF LEGACY AIRCRAFT

The government is planning to procure Executive Jets for VIP communication duties. The aircraft EMB 135-BJ 'Legacy' from M/s. Embraer of Brazil has been shortlisted for this purpose. The aircraft is a 19 seater small transport aircraft powered by two engines. The aircraft has state-of-art avionics and a glass cockpit. The Embraer aircraft has been evaluated along with others by Indian Air Force and found suitable for induction. The delivery of all the aircraft is scheduled to be completed after twenty- two months of the conclusion of the contract.

This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written reply to Shri Adhir Chowdhury and Dr Charan Das Mahant in Lok Sabha today.
