The total amount allocated for modernization of Indian Navy surrendered during last 05 years commencing from 1998 -1999 to 2002 - 2003 is Rs. 2169.23 crore.

The surrender of funds has been primarily on account of lesser outgo on committed liabilities due to delay in deliveries / slow progress of work by the firms on various projects.

Constant efforts are made to monitor and implement projects in a time manner. However, technological and other constraint sometimes delay projects.

This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written reply to Shri Swaraj Kaushal in Rajya Sabha today.
