CVC's REPORT ON DEFENCE PROCUREMENT

The Central Vigilance
Commission (CVC) furnished its final report to the Ministry of
Defence on Mar 31, 2001. The CVC’s report is based on Secret and
Top Secret documents of the Ministry of Defence as well as based
on the reports of IB & CBI has been classified as a Secret
document. Some procedural lapses/irregularities in post 1989 procurements
have been pointed out by CVC and fixing of responsibility suggested
in a few cases. Action has already been taken on CVC recommendations
related with procurement procedures etc. and CVC has been apprised
of the same. In cases, where CVC has suggested fixing of responsibility,
matters are under active consideration of the Ministry of Defence.
This information
was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written
reply to Shri Ekanath K Thakur and Prof M Sankaralingam in Rajya
Sabha today.
