CRS REPORT ON TRAIN ACCIDENTS
LOK SABHA
As per Section 114
of the Railways Act-1989, Commissioner of Railway Safety conducts
a statutory inquiry into a train accident involving grievous injuries
to any passenger or serious damage to Railway property.
The recommendations
made by Commissioner of Railway Safety in their reports are examined
by Zonal Railways and Ministry of Railways. Their acceptance or
non-acceptance is advised to the Commission.
The reports are kept
confidential as advised by the Commission of Railway Safety and
are published by the Commission of Railway Safety only.
The Commissioner
of Railway Safety under the Railways Act works independently in
respective Circle for the Zonal Railway under their jurisdiction.
The issues related
to the Commission have been raised in the ‘White Paper on Safety
on Indian Railways’, presented in the Parliament in April, 2003.
This information
was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya
in a written reply to a question from Shri Abul Hasnat Khan in
the Lok Sabha today.
