The Food Processing
Industries operate both in the organised and unorganised sectors.
However, as per information available with BIFR, since its inception
and upto 31st March, 2003, 186 food processing industries
were registered with them under the provisions of Industrial Companies
(Special Provision) Act, 1985. Factors such as low capacity utilization
low demand in the market, inefficient management, etc. could also
be responsible for poor performance of food processing industries.
This information
was given in Lok Sabha today by Shri N.T. Shanmugam, Minister
of State for Food Processing Industries in a written reply.
