RAILWAY BOARD HINDI SALAHKAR SAMITI MEETS


The 82nd meeting of Official Language Advisory Committee (Hindi Salahkar Samiti) of Railway Board in the Ministry of Railways met here, this afternoon, to take stock of progress of the use of official language (Hindi) in various Directorates of the Railway Board and public sector undertakings and other offices attached to it.

The Chairman, Railway Board, Shri R.K. Singh who presided over the meeting, asked senior officials to function as role model by working 50 per cent in Hindi. He directed that all officials down the lane be trained to work in Hindi by 2005. Besides, Shri Singh said that the remaining Manuals and Codes should be translated in Hindi at the earliest under a time bound programme to ensure that the entire workforce were well conversant with the regulatory measures for working all round preventive, protective and precautionary measures to improve safety of rail services to the Nation.

Talking of the direction of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, Shri Singh urged the officials to ensure sixty five percent correspondence within ‘A’ category (Hindi speaking) states. Shri Singh urged all officials to implement instructions of the Government on the use of Official Language faithfully. He also directed all public sector undertakings of Indian Railways to achieve 50 per cent target in noting and drafting as all of them were located in ‘A’ category states (Hindi speaking areas). He also directed senior officials of the Railway Board that 20 per cent of them should inspect Railway public sector undertakings at least twice in a year.

Today’s meeting took stock of the agenda for the current financial year on use of Official Language in Railway Board and various public sector undertakings and other attached and subordinate offices under it for the current financial year, with a message that all Directorates should implement the Official Language sincerely.
