RAILWAYS REVENUE FREIGHT EXCEEDS
TARGET IN FIRST QUARTER
The Railways moved
133.17 Million Tonnes (MTs) of revenue freight during the first
quarter of the current financial year ending June 2003 as against
the target of 130.10 MTs for the period, thus, exceeding the target
by 3.07 MTs. This is higher by 9.76 MTs compared to the corresponding
period of the previous year when 123.41 MTs were transported.
This also indicates buoyancy in the core sector of the national
economy.
The target for
the full financial year is 540 MTs of revenue freight.
During June 2003,
the Railways transported 44.33 MTs of revenue freight exceeding
the target of 43.05 MTs for the month by 1.28 MTs.
