RSP TARGET TO SAVE RS. 141 CRORE
THROUGH COST REDUCTION
Rourkela Steel Plant
(RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) aims at saving
Rs. 141 crore through cost reduction during the current fiscal.
The plant has identified 45 projects for the purpose. RSP saved
Rs. 121 crore through cost reduction efforts during the year 2002-03.
The plant identified 50 cost reduction projects during the year
and achieved 6 per cent more than the targetted Rs. 114 crore
savings.
The cost reduction
projects included power consumption in the plant's operation,
purchases, reduction in expenses in different areas and revenue
maximisation projects such as sale of idle assets and obsolete
items. It also improved price realisation through marketing which
resulted in saving of Rs. 27 crore. Sale of idle assets fetched
Rs. 12 crore during the year 2002-03.
