will launch Healthy Environment Campaign tomorrow as part of Government’s
endeavour to provide greenery, which can act as a buffer against
pollution. Deputy Prime Minister, Shri L.K Advani will lay the
foundation stone for the Model Park in Sector-9, R.K. Puram tomorrow
to launch the campaign.
In continuation of the Government’s
efforts to provide maximum greenery in Delhi, a scheme for the
development of 221 parks in various sectors of R.K. Puram has
been evolved. These parks have been graded into three categories
depending on the extent of development and availability of unfiltered
water. In addition, provision for 4 model parks has been made
in addition to the existing three model parks in sectors 5,7,8
of R.K. Puram. Model park will have toe wall and grill around
with provision for jogging track alongwith grassing, plantation
of trees and shrubs and land scaping. An estimate of Rs.3.14 crore
has been prepared for the development of these parks which are
expected to provide green coverage to an area of 2,10,000 Sq.
Mts.
Development of these parks
will require unfiltered water, which at present is not available
in adequate quantity in R.K. Puram. A scheme for providing 3 MGD
of unfiltered water for horticulture purpose from the treated
effluent from Delhi Jal Board, a 5 MGD sewerage treatment plant
at Vasant Kunj has been planned. The scheme also provides for
giving new connection to JNU Campus and to various parks of Central
Government Housing Complex at Vasant Vihar. A project costing
Rs.18 crore has been prepared for this purpose.
