The Minister of Information
and Broadcasting, Smt. Sushma Swaraj has commended the DD Bharati
Chanel of Doordarshan for mounting programmes, which would go
a long way to ward off the threat to our cultural heritage. Speaking
on the occasion of the First Anniversary of DD Bharati, which
was launched on the Republic Day last year, Smt. Swaraj said the
pure commercial presentation of programmes by private channels
whose only consideration is to earn revenue, had posed a great
threat to our rich art and cultural heritage.
Smt. Swaraj said
that being a Public Broadcaster, Doordarshan has got obligations
to provide healthy, clean and high quality programmes to the viewers
even at the cost of revenue. She was happy that the channel has
carved a niche for itself and hoped that it will make further
progress.

is also holding a seminar on "Public Service Broadcasting
– the Role of DD Bharati’, to mark the 1st Anniversary
of DD Bharati.
