EXTERNAL BOUNDARIES OF INDIA AS SHOWN IN "WORLD ATLAS" AND "BRITANNICA 2002" ARE NEITHER CORRECT NOR AUTHENTIC

A consignment containing CDs entitled "World Atlas" (1 set) and "Britannica – 2002" (2 sets) published in USA was held up by the Commissioner of Customs, Air Cargo Complex, Sahar, Mumbai and sent to Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance for their examination.

On examination of the above three CDs it was observed that J&K has not been shown as part of Indian Territory in the CD titled "World Atlas". Similarly, CD titled "Britannica 2002" shows part of J&K State as (a) Administered by Pakistan (b) Administered by India and (c) Administered by China which do not conform to the published maps of Survey of India.

Keeping in view the above cited wrong depiction the Government has decided to allow the import of these CDs into India only after stamping the legend "The external boundaries of India as depicted in the map(s) are neither correct nor authentic". Accordingly the Ministry of Finance has been requested to issue instructions to the all field formations in this regard for compliance.
