DELHI METRO RAIL PROJECT TO BE COMPLETED BY 2005

Delhi Metro Rail Project is expected to be fully completed by 2005 and at the projected level of traffic it will be able to meet its obligations of repayment of the loan taken from the Japanese Aid Agency. This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Shri Pon. Radhakirishnan in a written reply to Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh "Lalan" and others in Rajya Sabha today.

The Minister stated that Shahdara - Tis hazari segment is only a small part of Delhi Metro Project and has been in operation for hardly two months. It is too early to estimate losses for Delhi Metro on the basis of the results of this segment. Public patronage of this segment is not up to the expected level on week days but is up to the expected level on holidays, he added.
