The Government
through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has set
up 163 agro and rural industries under the Rural Employment
Generation Programme (REGP) in Kashmir Valley, last year. The
Government has been implementing the Rural Employment Generation
Programme to promote setting up of agro and rural industries
in the Valley.
During the Tenth
Plan period, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)
proposes to generate two million additional employment opportunities
under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) throughout
the country. For implementation of Khadi and Village Industries
programmes in the North Eastern Region, the Government of India
is making separate allocation to KVIC, which can be varied as
per the mid-term appraisal of performance by each State.
