The offtake of
foodgrains from central pool during the current financial year
2002-2003 (April-December 2002) was 348.02 lakh tonnes as against
196.97 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period the previous
year registering an increase of 151.05 lakh tonnes or an increase
of 76.69 per cent.
Under Targeted
Public Distribution System the offtake increased from 100.84
lakh tonnes during April to December 2001 to 135.03 lakh tonnes
during April to December 2002 marking an increase of 34.19 lakh
tonnes. The offtake under various welfare schemes also increased
from 36.13 lakh tonnes to 74.58 lakh tonnes during this period
registering an increase of 38.45 lakh tonnes or 106.42 per cent.
The open market sales increased from 29.83 lakh tonnes during
April-December 2001 to 41.64 lakh tonnes during the report period
registering an increase of 39.59 per cent.
During April to
December 2002 a quantity of 96.78 lakh tonnes of foodgrains
were lifted for export as against 30.18 lakh tonnes during the
corresponding period in 2001-2002 representing an increase of
220.68 per cent.
