The Hardware sector
offers major opportunity for growth. This was stated by the
Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Shri R.R. Shah
while inaugurating "India Soft 2003", an International IT Exhibition,
here today. He said that the Government has already received
the report of the experts on the promotion of hardware sector.
Shri Shah stated that the sector report has estimated the size
of the market at 69 billion dollars which India can exploit
with its trained manpower. He also advised the software companies
to pay greater attention to the domestic market. Mr. Shah also
wanted them to pay more attention on marketing of IT products
and its solutions.
Giving details
of India’s cooperation with various developing countries in
IT sector, Shri Shah said that the Government has set up six
IT Centres in Ghana, Mangolia, Vietnam, Mauritius and Malaysia.
He also outlined a project to take Information Technology at
the School, University and Engineering colleges in the country
through the projects ‘Vidhya Vahini’ and ‘Gyan Vahini’.
Speaking on the
occasion, the Thailand Minister for Information Technology,
Dr. S. Suebwonglee expressed his keenness to have better cooperation
with India in this field and acknowledged India’s leadership
in this field among the Asian countries.
More than 160 delegates
from 31 countries are participating in the three-day meeting.
Over 60 Indian IT companies will be exhibiting their products
and solutions at the fair.
