Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources
has stressed the need for renewable energy policies in the States
/ UTs in respect of power purchase, wheeling and banking and
Third Party sale of power generated from renewable energy projects.
Shri Singh was speaking at a one day Conference on Opportunities
in Non-conventional Energy in India, he inaugurated here today.
He said that MNES had accepted the challenge of providing electricity
to 18,000 un-electrified villages located in remote and difficult
areas and also to add 10,000 MW of grid quality power from renewable
energy sources by the end of the 11th Five Year Plan
(2012).
The Conference
was organised by MNES as part of the India Infrastructure Show
organised by CII. The objectives of the Conference were to highlight
Indian capability in terms of R&D production and promotion
of various non-conventional energy systems and devices and also
to encourage foreign investors in financing and setting up projects.
About one hundred
experts from India and abroad participated in the Conference.
Recent developments and programme overviews in the areas of
Solar, Wind, Biomass and Small Hydro were deliberated in detail
to attract private participation and also avail finance available
from the Global Environmental Facility and the Clean Development
Mechanism for the clean energy initiatives. A separate session
on Frontier Technologies such as fuel cells, hydrogen, zero
emission vehicles and bio fuels was also held during the Conference.
It was concluded
that the renewable energy development in India had attained
a greater momentum in the recent past and that India could take
a lead in the export of various non-conventional Energy systems
such as wind electric generators, bio-mass gasifiers, solar
energy systems, zero emission electric vehicles and devices,
besides providing expert consultancy to the developed and developing
countries.
