WELFARE SCHEMES FOR CINE WORKERS

The
National Film Development Corporation Ltd. has set up Cine Artistes
Welfare Fund of India (CAWFI), registered as Public Charitable
Trust, which extends financial help to needy film artistes of
yester years. The Trust was set up from the funds received by
way of 5 per cent of profit of the feature film Gandhi.
Replying a question
by Shri V. Vetriselvan in Lok Sabha today, the Minister of Information
& Broadcasting, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad said that under the
Cine Workers Welfare Fund Act, 1981, the cess collected from the
producers of feature films is used for the welfare of cine workers
on welfare activities like a Group Insurance Scheme for cine workers,
health care facilities including financial assistance for treatment
of heart diseases, kidney transplantation and treatment of cancer,
and financial assistance for education of the children of cine
workers from first standard to professional degree classes.
According to information
received from the Ministry of Labour, there are approximately
64,483 cine workers in the country, the Minister added.
