SETTING UP POWER PLANT BY RAILWAYS IN NABINAGAR

The Railways have planned to set up a power plant jointly with NTPC in Nabinagar in Bihar.

It is proposed to instal four units of 250 MW each at a cost of Rs. 4374 crores. For this purpose a Joint Venture Company "Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company" is proposed, to be formed with National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC).

About seven years time will be taken for fructification from the date of Cabinet approval.

Forty-nine per cent equity will be by NTPC.

Annual saving of about Rs. 400 crores is anticipated on commissioning of this project on the basis of current level of traffic and electric traction tariff.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Basanagouda R. Patil in a written reply to a question from Shri Arun Kumar in the Lok Sabha today.
