PRIVATE SECTOR PARTICIPATION IN RAILWAYS

Some
identified non-core activities are already being executed by agencies
other than Railways. Recently, activities like catering, tourism
and telecommunication development with optic fibre cables have
been corporatised through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism
Corporation (IRCTC) and Railtel Corporation of India Ltd. (RAILTEL).
The Ministry of Railways is exploring possibilities of forging
public-private partnerships in funding of rail infrastructure
projects.
This information
was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Basanagouda
R. Patil in a written reply to a question from Shri Ananta Nayak
in the Lok Sabha today.
