YIELD OF AGRICULTURAL CROPS
RAJYA SABHA
The Government has
taken steps to increase the yield rate of various agricultural
crops. These include promotion of intensive agriculture in rice-based,
wheat-based and coarse cereals-based cropping system areas. The
Government also gives subsidy for various inputs such as sprinklers
and drip irrigation to small farmers to encourage them to take
up intensive agriculture. Some of these schemes have been brought
under a Macro Management Scheme to give flexibility to the States
in the implementation of the scheme as per their local requirements.
These measures are expected to increase the yield rate and reduce
the cost of production. The Government has also launched the Accelerated
Irrigation Benefit Programme and the National Watershed Development
Programme to increase the area under irrigation.
