78 NEW TOWNS SELECTED FOR INTEGRATED
DEVELOPMENT
RAJYA SABHA
78 new towns have
been brought under the scheme for Integrated Development of Small
and Medium Towns (IDSMT) during the year 2003-04, so far. This
includes 13 towns of Maharashtra, 10 of Karnataka, 8 each in Arunachal
Pradesh and Gujarat, 7 in Andhra Pradesh, 6 each in Rajasthan
and Haryana, 5 in Chattisgarh, 4 each in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu
& Kashmir, 2 each in Kerala and Himachal Pradesh and one town
each in Nagaland, Orissa and Pondicherry. Further coverage of
towns in 2003-04 will depend upon the availability of funds and
the submission of Project reports duly approved by State level
Sanctioning Committee.
Under the Integrated
Development of Small and Medium Towns (IDSMT) scheme, 114 towns
were covered during 2001-02 and 168 towns in the year 2002-03.
The ratio of Central and State contribution of category A, B and
C towns is as under: -
