199.41 CRORES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF KOLKATA

Centre has Provided Rs. 199.41 Crores for development of Kolkata under the Centrally sponsored scheme for Infrastructural Development in Mega cities. The projects on which the assistance is to be utilized include water supply schemes for Municipal and Non-Municipal areas, Traffic and Transportation, Sewerage and Drainage, Housing and Area Development, Commercial projects, Bustee Development, Environmental Improvement and Restoration and River Front Development. Cost of these projects is estimated to be Rs. 90098.63 lakhs. An amount of Rs. 53876.52 lakh has already been spent on these projects till March 2003 and many of the projects are complete.

Under the Integrated Development of Small and Medium Towns Scheme, 92 towns have been covered in West Bengal since 1979-80 to July, 2003. Central assistance of 4519.04 lakhs has been released against which an expenditure of Rs. 5575.36 lakhs has been reported by the State Government till date.
