1065 OCCUPATIONS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR
IDENTIFIED AS SUITABLE FOR JOBS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

1065 occupations
in the private sector have been identified as suitable for jobs
for persons with disabilities. These include 120 occupations at
executive/ management/supervisory levels and 945 occupations at
skilled/ semi-skilled/ unskilled levels. A Committee of Experts
constituted by the Ministry of Social justice and Empowerment
identified these jobs. The Expert Committee included representatives
from the corporate sector. Giving this information in a written
reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Social justice
and Empowerment Shri Kailash Meghwal said that the Report has
been shared with the concerned central ministries/ departments,
state governments, UT administrations, public sector undertakings
and various other organisations / institutions including FICCI,
ASSOCHAM and CII and NGOs in an effort to promote employment of
persons with disabilities. Shri Meghwal said that the Persons
with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and
Full Participation) Act, 1995 provides for a 3% reservation in
central government and public sector undertakings against posts
identified as suitable for employment of persons with disabilities.
He said the Act does not provide for reservation for employment
of persons with disabilities in the private and corporate sector.
The Minister further added that there is no reliable data available
on the employment of persons with disabilities in the private
sector
