PRODUCTION OF BIO-MASS ENERGY

The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources is implementing Programmes on biomass power generation, bagasse co-generation and biomass gasification. A capacity of 593 MW has so far been installed under these programmes. A target of 775 MW is envisaged for the Tenth Five Year Plan. State-wise targets are not fixed.

State-wise allocation of funds has not been made. An amount of Rs.8.78 crore has been released during the last three years for biomass energy projects in Punjab. No releases have been made so far during the curent year.

This information was given by Shri M. Kannappan, Minister of State for Non-conventional Energy Sources, in a written reply to a question by Shri Bhan Singh Bhaura in Lok Sabha today.
