VRS IN SAIL

The Steel Authority
of India Ltd. (SAIL), a public sector undertaking of the Ministry
of Steel has separated 12,324 employees through voluntary retirement
scheme (VRS) during the last three years. In the VR Scheme launched
during 2001, 6510 employees availed VRS. In the second scheme
3,858 employees were separated through VRS during the period January
2002 to August 2002. During the period December 2002 to March
2003, 1,956 employees of SAIL availed VRS.
The total amount
spent during the last three years on voluntary retirement scheme
in SAIL is over Rs.900 crore. The company's expenditure in the
scheme up to March 2004 is estimated at Rs.500 crore.

was given by the Minister for Steel Shri Braja Kishore Tripathy
in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
