ADDITIONAL CENTRAL ASSISTANCE TO
MADHYA PRADESH FOR RURAL DRINKING WATER
Ministry of Rural
Development has released an amount of Rs. 577 lakh to the State
Government of Madhya Pradesh towards additional Central assistance
to meet the rural drinking water supply requirement arising due
to drought situation in the State during 2003-2004. This assistance
is provided out of the 5% of the total Central Rural Water Supply
Outlay earmarked for contingencies arising due to natural calamities/disaster.
These funds must
be utilised for (I) Hydro fracturing of 4550 tubewells (ii) Rejuvenation
of 951 non-functional piped water/Spot Source Scheme (iii) Sinking
of 10679 borewells (iv) Extension of riser pipes (321000 meter)
in the handpumps & (v) Deepening of 2210 existing open wells.
These funds are released on 100% central share basis in relaxation
of ARWSP Guidelines. Possibility of 10% community participation
(5% for SC/ST communities) may be explored, where ever feasible,
while utilizing these funds.
