NATIONAL GALLERY OF MODERN ART
TO HAVE A NEW WING FOR DISPLAY OF ARTS OBJECTS
The
Minister of Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan today laid the
foundation stone of new wing of National Gallery of Modern Art
here today. Spread over 8 acre area the new wing will provide
world class modern galleries for displaying arts objects. It will
be completed with the cost of Rs. 49.45 crore in a period of two
years.
Laying the foundation
stone, Shri Jagmohan said now tourism has been closely linked
with culture and related activities. A number of new projects
are being initiated to project rich cultural and artistic heritage
of the country, which include setting up cultural hub in various
parts of the country, new museums and studios for budding painters.
He announced that Department of Culture would set up a complex
of painting studios in Delhi on the pattern of Garhi studios to
encourage young and budding painters and artists.
National Gallery
of Modern Art has a programme of increasing its collections under
Painting, Sculptures, Graphics, and Industrial Design. Architecture,
Photography and select audio-visual material. The activities of
the gallery have further extended to non-formal education, preservation
and conservation of art objects, publication programme, art sketch
club and extra mural activities. Tremendous shortage of space
to implement the various programme necessitated the construction
of the new wing.
