TRANSPORTATION OF CEMENT TO NER


RAJYA SABHA

The Railways are meeting requirements of essential commodities including cement in North-Eastern Region and their input by Railways in the region is regularly monitored.

During 2001-2002, Railways have transported 1061 thousand tonnes of cement to North-Eastern Region. While in the year 2002-2003, 1277 thousand tonnes of cement have been transported to North-Eastern Region. There is an increase of 21.4 per cent. During October-March 2002, transportation of cement to North-East was 495 thousand tonnes while in the corresponding period of the current financial year 648 thousand tonnes of cement have been transported to North East region thus showing an incremental transportation of 30.9 per cent. This trend of substantially increased transportation of essential commodities including cement to North-East region is continuing in the month of April, 2003.
