128 RAILWAY BOARD OFFICIALS HONOURED
ON 150TH ANNIVARSARY OF RAILWAYS
The Chairman Railway
Board Shri Iqbal Inder Mohan Singh Rana honoured 128 officials
of the Ministry of Railways marking the finale of year long celebrations
of 150 glorious years of Indian Railways and commencement of the
48th Railway Week at a function here today.
Of the recipients,
five were Section Officers for the best maintained sections followed
by 60 officials for their outstanding performances, 31 sportspersons
for their excellence in inter-Ministry games, six other sportsmen
for their excellence in chess, swimming, table tennis and wrestling,
six other players for excellence in team events, four others for
excellence in inter-directorate chess, carom, table tennis and
badminton championships, nine officials for excellence in music
and songs, ten gardeners and three other gardeners of National
Rail Museum. The recipients were awarded cash prize and a citation
each for their exemplary performance during the year 2002-2003.
Speaking on the
occasion, the Chairman Railway Board, Shri Rana congratulated
the awardees for their outstanding performances and hoped others
would follow in their footsteps. He exhorted the railwaymen and
women to rededicate themselves to the good of Indian Railways
and work hard in the days to come to maintain railways primary
in bulk transportation.
Later, the Union
Minister of Railways Shri Nitish Kumar opened a grand finale to
the year long celebrations of 150 glorious years of Indian Railways
at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with a laser show depicting evolution
of Railways in India followed by a cultural pageant staged by
the renowned artiste Siamak Davar to the occular delight of a
jam-packed audience.
