INCLUSION OF NEW CASTES IN
THE LIST OF BACKWARD CLASSES OF THE COUNTRY
RAJYA SABHA
As per provision under
Section 9 (1) of the National Commission for Backward Classes
(NCBC) Act, 1993, the National Commission for Backward Classes
(NCBC) examines requests for inclusion of any class citizens as
a backward class in the lists and hears complaints of over-inclusion
or under-inclusion of any backward class in such lists and tenders
such advice to the Central Government as it deems appropriate.
The Government
of India decides cases for inclusion/amendment in the Central
Lists of Backward Classes based on the advices tendered by the
NCBC and details thereof are notified from time to time. The Central
Lists of OBCs undergoes changes whenever there are additions.
This is a continuous process.
The castes and
communities on which final decision has been taken have been notified
through 19 Gazette Notifications issued so far.
Dr. Sanjay Paswan,
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, gave this
information in Rajya Sabha today in reply to a written question
by Shri Kapil Sibal and Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh ‘Lalan’.
