FIFTY PER CENT GROWTH IN JUTE EXPORT
RAJYA SABHA
There has been an
increase in export of jute goods by 50 per cent in value terms
during the first six months of the current financial year (April
– September 2002) as compared to the same period last year. There
was a decline in the export of jute goods in 2001-02 in comparison
to the exports during 2000-01 due to several factors like general
economic recession.
The Jute Manufactures
Development Council (JMDC) proposes to evolve an export strategy
for improving jute product exports. The Tata Economic Consultancy
Services (TECS) has been assigned by JMDC to undertake a study
on Export Promotion Strategy in respect of selected jute products.
The salient features of the study include identification of thrust
products and most promising markets, impact of various ecological
issues on export prospects, formulation of strategic marketing
plan, etc.
