PRIVATE INDUSTRY INVITED TO SPONSOR SPORTS


The Ministry for Youth Affairs & Sports has invited private industry to sponsor sports events in India.

In a meeting chaired by Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Vikram Verma it was decided that Chambers of Commerce & Industries will prepare proposals for sponsoring sports disciplines as well as elite athletes having winning prospects in Olympics and World Championships in consultation with Sports Authority of India. These proposals have to be finalised by next month. The meeting was attended by representatives of FICCI, CII, PHD Chamber of Commerce and ASSOCHAM.

The meeting, held to explore the possibility of generating resources from the corporate sector for promotion of sports, discussed the possible role of industry in this areas. It was decided that industries’ associations in the country will also prepare plans with a view to getting medals in the forthcoming Olympic games. It was suggested that hence- forth the Government and Industry associations will have constant dialogue for promoting sports in the country.

The Minister also appealed to the representatives to donate towards the National Sports Development Fund and also to support the scheme of State Sports Academies which will be introduced as a new scheme during the plan period.
