GOVERNMENT DE-LICENSES
INDOOR WIRELESS LAN IN 2.4 GHz
The Government has
exempted from licensing requirement, use of Wireless Local Area
Network (WLAN) with IEEE (Institution of Electrical & Electronics
Engineers) 802.11 (b) standard and Bluetooth technology equipment,
in 2400-2483.5 MHz band, using direct sequence spread spectrum
technology and radiated power output upto 100 milliwatts, with
indoor or inbuilt antenna (maximum effective radiated power 26dBm)
in 10 MHz spread, on non-interference and non-protection basis,
within the single contiguous campus of an individual or duly recognised
organisation/institution, for their own use. A Notification has
been issued vide GSR No.453 in the Gazette dated 2.11.2002.
This is expected
to boost the IT sector through wireless connectivity for computers
and Internet services, for their use in buildings and campuses.
