PROTEST AGAINST IMPLEMENTATION
OF LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITIES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2002
LOK SABHA
The Government are
aware of the threat by the Bar Council of India to boycott Lok
Adalats under the Legal Services Authorities (Amendment) Act,
2002, as it considers the provisions of the said Act as ‘anti-litigant’.
The Government
are not aware of similar views on the issue by any public activist
group/Consumer Welfare Assocition.
The Supreme Court
has, by its Order of October 28, 2002 in S.N. Pandey Vs. Union
of India, upheld constitutional validity of the aforesaid Act.

was given by the Union Minister of Law and Justice, Shri K. Jana
Krishnamurthi in a written reply to a question from Shri Vinay
Kumar Sorake in the Lok Sabha today.
