PRESS NOTE

The office of the Economic Adviser, Ministry of Commerce & Industry has brought out a consolidated bulletin on "Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices in India (Base: 1993-94=100)". The bulletin contains the following information on Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices

1. A brief methodological note on compilation of Wholesale Price Index Number and linking factor for linking the current series with the outgoing series.
2. Weights for Major Groups, Groups, Sub-groups and individual commodities.
3. Monthly Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices by Major Groups, Groups, Sub-groups and individual commodities from April, 1994 to March, 2001 along with Calendar and Financial Year Averages.
4. Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices for ‘All Commodities and Groups (Base: 1952-53=100) - monthly and annual averages from 1953 to 1961.
5. Index Numbers of Wholesale Prices of ‘All Commodities and Groups (Base: 1961-62=100) - monthly and annual averages from 1962 to 1970.
6. Point to point rate of inflation based on Wholesale Price Index Numbers (Base: 1993-94=100) -financial year and calendar year for the years April, 1994 to March, 2001 depicted graphically.
