IRON ORE PRODUCTION
UP 18 PER CENT
The production of
iron ore in the country during April-July of this fiscal was 29.33
million tonnes (MT) against 24.78 MT during the same period last
year, showing a growth of nearly 18 per cent. During the month
of July, 2002 the production was 6.6 MT against 4.98 MT in July
2001. During the month, Karnataka has produced the highest 29
per cent of the total production in the country, followed by Orissa
22 per cent, Chhattisgarh 23 per cent, Jharkhand 17 per cent and
Goa 8 per cent.
India ranks 6th
in production of iron ore in the world and accounts for about
6 per cent of total production. China tops the list of iron ore
producers followed by Brazil, Australia, Russia and United States.
